Petros Singers: A Ceremony of Carols Revisited
Ten years ago, Richard Bannan conducted Britten's A Ceremony of Carols in his first Christmas concert as Musical Director of Petros Singers. This December, the choir returns to the medieval poetry that inspired Britten's masterpiece, exploring how composers across the centuries have responded to these evocative texts. For Richard, the poetry has a particular resonance. "These poems are deeply embedded in my understanding of the Christmas story," he explains. Hearing them through the music of different composers has been "eye-opening, particularly as Britten's settings leave such an indelible impression." The programme brings together familiar favourites and lesser-known gems, with music by Howells, Mathias, Rutter, McDowall and others, alongside much-loved audience carols. Join Petros Singers for an evening of glorious choral music, candlelight, mulled wine and mince pies – a wonderful way to usher in the festive season!
