Candlelit Carols with Newcastle Cathedral Choir

The programme ranges from ancient Advent texts and traditional carols to lullabies, lively seasonal music and contemporary choral works. Combining familiar favourites with less frequently heard pieces, the concert offers a welcome pause during the busy season approaching Christmas. Newcastle Cathedral Choir plays a central role in the Cathedral’s worship and musical life. Recent broadcasts include BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship and BBC Radio 3’s Choral Evensong, while its album A Year at Newcastle was praised by BBC Music Magazine. When booking, you can reserve a copy of the Choir’s album O Nata Lux: Music for Advent, Christmas & Epiphany to collect on the evening. It is available at the discounted price of £10 (usually £12.99). Please note: Doors open at 6:45pm, 45 minutes before the concert begins. Refreshments will be available ‘by donation’ before the concert and during the interval. Seating is unreserved. Plenty of seats will be available, but we encourage you to arrive early to choose your preferred spot and soak up the festive atmosphere. Newcastle Cathedral is a historic building with some uneven floor surfaces. We recommend wearing suitable footwear. By attending this concert, you will help raise vital funds to care for this beautiful cathedral, support our work as a registered charity, and keep our doors open to all.
